Indiana Jones
Preliminary Work
It took two years to return to any kind of portrait or illustration. Done for fun one evening, I picked up a pencil just to see if “I still had it” and I was pleased to see that I could still capture some sort of a likeness despite not having done anything as creative as this for decades.
I was happy enough with the result that, later, I took it into Photoshop to complete hoping, in my innocence to emulate the style of the incredible Drew Struzan. Still working with an old style, screenless graphics tablet it was rewarding, if a bit of a struggle, but it reawakened in me the long neglected desire to paint just for the joy of it, the way I had done as a child.
This was a kind of ‘proof of concept’ to me that I might be happy enough using digital tools and not just the traditional pens, pencils and paint of my youth and Art College.
